The Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist Club is the first service club in Southeast Missouri to respond to requests by Southeast Missouri State University for assistance to help overcome the current tight financial situation; the club has given the university $500 to be used for a scholarship at the school.

LUTESVILLE, Mo. -- For a second time, voters of the school district in Bollinger County yesterday balloted against issuing $400,000 bonds for combined junior and senior high school buildings; following the closing of the polls, the school board voted to auction off all the rural school buildings in the district, which haven't been used since consolidation.

Yesterday, Judge Dyer signed checks in payment for Broadway property that the government some time ago condemned for a federal building site; the check given August Ruesskamp was for $13,000 and that to W.H. Miller was $2,000.
One of the largest receptions ever given in Cape Girardeau is held at the home of Mrs. D.A. Glenn on South Spanish Street; the hostesses are Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. Dean Garrett of Webster Groves, Mo., Mrs. Malcomb Nesmith, Mabel Glenn, and Mamie Kimmel of Kansas; more than 250 invitations were sent out.
