25 years ago: Nov. 20, 1982

The Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist Club is the first service club in Southeast Missouri to respond to requests by Southeast Missouri State University for assistance to help overcome the current tight financial situation; the club has given the university $500 to be used for a scholarship at the school.

Parisian Dry Cleaners of Cape Girar-deau was recently purchased from Gene Points by Richard Loomis, owner and operator of Candy Cane Cleaners; Parisian was established on Broadway by the Shuck family.

50 years ago: Nov. 20, 1957

Southeast Missouri Hospital, its new wing completed and occupied, plans to initiate a community campaign for $100,000 to remodel the original hospital building, now in its 30th year.

LUTESVILLE, Mo. -- For a second time, voters of the school district in Bollinger County yesterday balloted against issuing $400,000 bonds for combined junior and senior high school buildings; following the closing of the polls, the school board voted to auction off all the rural school buildings in the district, which haven't been used since consolidation.

75 years ago: Nov. 20, 1932

The Rev. R.L. Harrell, pastor of First Christian Church is back in Cape Girar-deau from a two-day trip to Arkansas; he was guest speaker at one-day conventions of the Disciples of Christ at Helena and Paragould.

The third floor of Southeast Missouri Hospital is placed in operation when an increased number of patients makes conditions on the other two floors crowded; the hospital has 45 patients, the largest number since last February.

100 years ago: Nov. 20, 1907

Yesterday, Judge Dyer signed checks in payment for Broadway property that the government some time ago condemned for a federal building site; the check given August Ruesskamp was for $13,000 and that to W.H. Miller was $2,000.

One of the largest receptions ever given in Cape Girardeau is held at the home of Mrs. D.A. Glenn on South Spanish Street; the hostesses are Mrs. Glenn, Mrs. Dean Garrett of Webster Groves, Mo., Mrs. Malcomb Nesmith, Mabel Glenn, and Mamie Kimmel of Kansas; more than 250 invitations were sent out.
