Sixteen days after voters rejected county planning and zoning, Cape Girardeau County Commission took formal action abolishing its planning department and related ordinances; after meeting with J. Fred Waltz, attorney for county planning commission, county commission Thursday unanimously approved resolution be prepared to carry out will of voters from Nov. 3 general election.
Number of concerned parents tried to pin Scott City School Board on issue of wrestling last night; group spoke at board meeting, urging school district to reinstate wrestling program, which was discontinued at end of season for financial reasons.

The Rev. Marvin R. Wormington is new pastor at Faith Baptist Temple, 2530 Marsha Kay Drive; Wormington arrived in Cape Girardeau about two weeks ago from Joplin, along with his wife and two children.
Organ recital by Professor Ray Bradbury is last celebration in series of events held to commemorate 10th anniversary of Lutheran Campus Ministry at Southeast Missouri State University; recital is held in evening at Lutheran Chapel of Hope; chapel's pipe organ was donated by James M. Weis and Mary C. Coykendall in memory of their parents, Professor and Mrs. Albert J. Weis.

Brand new Stanton K. Smith, towboat built by Missouri Barge Line Co. in Cape Girardeau, left yesterday on its maiden cruise up Mississippi River; boat's name honors president of Smith Oil & Refining Co. of Rockford, Ill., one of firms for which boat will be in river usage.
Looking to day when new high school building in West End is put into use, City Traffic Advisory Committee has recommended to city council that it take steps to see that sidewalks are built on streets adjacent to school site.
75 years ago: Nov. 20, 1927
The Rev. R.M. Talbert, district evangelist for Christian Church, occupies pulpit at First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau; Frank McDonald, who led song service during community revival, leads singing; there is no evening service at church, and members are urged to attend revival at Houck Field House.
Mrs. Julia Finley of Commerce celebrated her 99th birthday with dinner for relatives and friends at her home yesterday; she made her own birthday cake and helped prepare meal; she was born Nov. 19, 1828, at McMillan, Tenn., moving to Southeast Missouri when she was 9; her husband died number of years ago; R.W. Finley of Chaffee is her only child, but she has adopted number of relatives and children of friends, whom she has reared.
