25 years ago: Nov. 2, 1986

The congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church observes special Reformation Day services; Dr. Ronald Feuerhahn, assistant professor in the department of historical theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, is the festival speaker.

All Saints Day is observed with Holy Communion at worship services celebrated at St. Mark Lutheran Church; the Rev. William West of De Soto, Mo., is special guest and celebrant.

50 years ago: Nov. 2, 1961

The Air Force Reserve, including men from Southeast Missouri, will stage a three-state mock exercise Nov. 18 and 19 to see if specially trained reservists can repair and return to the air theoretically damaged aircraft that have returned from a nuclear war bombing mission.

Jesse Tow, owner of the extensive former Serena frontage on U.S. 61, announces an agreement has been reached with an international motel organization for construction of 60 units, to which he will add convention and dining facilities for 350 people; the agreement is with Travelodge Corp., and the hotel will be built north of the new service station being constructed on U.S. 61 adjacent to the Arena Park entrance.

75 years ago: Nov. 2, 1936

J. Grant Frye

His campaign at an end, J. Grant Frye returns home to Cape Girardeau to await the verdict of the voters at the polls tomorrow; Frye is a candidate for attorney general of Missouri.

A petition asking for incorporation of a village at the west side of Cape Girardeau, to be known as West Cape Girardeau, is filed with the County Court; the area concerned would include a strip along U.S. 61 northward from Independence Street past the U.S. 61-West Broadway junction to Hopper Road.

100 years ago: Nov. 2, 1911

The Cape Girardeau concert band, under the direction of Charles Armgardt, will give a concert tomorrow night at the Grand Theater to benefit the band; money raised will be used to buy new sheet music and meet the other expenses of the organization.

Tom Penny, formerly a Cape Girardeau boy, who has been working at the Roberts, Johnson and Rand shoe factory in St. Louis, arrives here to take a position in the shoe factory in this city.
