The Cape Girardeau City Council and the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents, meeting jointly last night, whittled down a list of 15 possible names for the multipurpose building down to four: Liberty Center, Lorimont Centre, Coliseum and SEMO Summit.
Angered at public remarks made Monday by two City Council members, an obviously upset Parks and Recreation Advisory Board adjourned its special meeting last night without dealing with its only item of business -- proposed park and pool fees; both council members had voiced their displeasure over park board discussions about the fees.
Supplying the pulpit of First Baptist Church at both services is Dr. E.D. Owen of Flat River, Mo.; Owen served as pastor of the Cape Girardeau congregation from 1930 to 1933.
The Rev. David F. Harris is the new pastor of St. James A.M.E. Church in Cape Girardeau; Harris, 41, is a native of San Antonio, Texas, but has resided in St. Louis for 18 years.
The hunt for three escaped Scott County prisoners, including one under death sentence for his part in a 1935 holdup slaying, centers in Cape Girardeau County; two other escapees were captured yesterday around noon.
Mrs. Hallie Miller of St. Louis, formerly Hallie Wilson of Illmo, is receiving quite a bit of publicity in newspapers and movie news reels over the fact she is one of the few women street car operators in St. Louis.
