Representatives of area Lutheran congregations met at St. Paul Lutheran School in Jackson last night to discuss the feasibility of establishing a Lutheran high school, which would serve about 23 congregations, mostly in Cape Girardeau and Perry counties; there are 2,809 Lutheran children (up to 18 years of age) in the Altenburg, Bootheel-Jackson, and Cape Girardeau circuits.

Although county officials are apparently satisfied with the terms of a new county ambulance service contract, Cape Girardeau city officials don't share their satisfaction and claim the new agreement takes unfair advantage of local citizens.

50 years ago: Nov. 19, 1955

After weeks of planning and preparation, the Southeast Missourian Building has been transformed into an art gallery, as the newspaper plays host to the ninth annual Missourian Art Exhibition; the art show features numerous regional artists as well as the work of guest artists Mr. and Mrs. Fred G. Carpenter; it opens in the evening and continues tomorrow afternoon.

The first breath of the Christmas season is ushered into Cape Girardeau with a huge "Salute to Santa Claus" street parade.

75 years ago: Nov. 19, 1930

Another delay in final action by the city council on the proposed utilities franchise for Cape Girardeau results when the council decides to submit the proposal to the Public Service Commission for informal review.

Capt. William "Buck" Leyhe arrives in Cape Girardeau aboard the steamer Cape Girardeau as it joins the steamer Golden Eagle, which came here from St. Louis Monday night; in the afternoon he is in command of the boats on their trip to Cairo, Ill., where they will remain during the winter for overhauling and reconditioning.

100 years ago: Nov. 19, 1905

The commissioners appointed recently by the county court to select a site for the new courthouse in Jackson met yesterday and went over the ground; if the ideas of the commission are carried out, the property known as the northeast corner square, on which stands the old hotel, will be purchased with funds out of the bond issue.

John Vogt, 77, of Cape Girardeau dies during the night; he had lived in Cape Girardeau for over 50 years and by trade was a blacksmith; he had amassed a considerable amount of valuable city property and other estate; Vogt lived with his daughter, Mrs. Charles Moeder, at 228 S. Sprigg St.
