Some members of city's Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board question city council's approval Monday of sports and recreational facility to be finance with excess tourism funds; board member Walt Wildman says council's action has "handcuffed" board and taken away scope of its responsibilities.

New bubble that was inflated over municipal pool at Central High School Wednesday features 80- by 80-foot translucent area that allows light to stream through; pool is expected to be open for public swims next week.

25 years ago: Nov. 19, 1977

Cape Girardeau Central football fans are left disheartened, while Southeast Missouri State University followers receive unexpected and pleasant surprise; Central fans watch dreams of gridiron glory fade, as they lose to Hazelwood Central, 13-7, in Class 4A semifinal contest played at Houck Stadium; meanwhile, at Jefferson City, Southeast crushes Lincoln, 28-6, and Rolla upsets Kirksville, 21-19; as result, Indians, Bulldogs and Miners end in three-way tie for MIAA championship.

Southeast Missouri State University traffic personnel will diligently begin policing neighborhood streets in vicinity of campus on Monday to ticket student cars; student drivers are now required to park their cars on lots assigned by university.

50 years ago: Nov. 19, 1952

Plans for increasing annual production by 100,000 barrels at Cape Girardeau plant are announced by Marquette Cement Mfg. Co.; proposed improvements will raise production to about 1,500,000 barrels per year; improvements include installation of equipment designed to improve rock crushing and kiln burning efficiency.

Proposal the Legislature set standard flat fee for circuit clerks in all court cases is endorsed by state's circuit clerks in convention here; it is expected Circuit Clerks and Recorders Association of Missouri will instruct its legislative committee to prepare and submit bill to Legislature at beginning of next General Assembly; clerks now receive separate fees for various services performed in connection with each case.

75 years ago: Nov. 19, 1927

Engineers of Frisco Railroad are engaged in making surveys north and west of city limits of Cape Girardeau, possibly with plan to circle western section of town at least with a branch line; surveyors have been at work number of days on Cape Rock and Country Club property, north of Cape Girardeau, and have driven number of stakes, indicating apparently one of proposed lines new railroad might take.

Cape Girardeau Teachers College football team was defeated yesterday at Kirksville by score of 80-0; Teachers were no match for Bulldogs; only once did visitors put ball in their opponents' territory, that being near end of game on aerial attack that placed ball on 1-yard line, where it was lost on downs.
