Official with Mid America Hotels tells City Council that excess city tourism funds should be used to build multipurpose building on Cape Girardeau's northwest side; Bob Hahn, vice president of development for hotel chain, says 24,000-square-foot multipurpose building could be developed along with other recreational facilities in 75-acre tract along Mount Auburn Road between Hopper Road and Kingshighway.

KANSAS CITY -- Missouri Air Conservation Commission has approved one-year reprieve for Noranda Aluminum, Inc., to comply with state air pollution laws; Noranda had sought indefinite variance from state restrictions for its plant at New Madrid, but Department of Natural Resources recommended against any delay.

75 years ago: Nov. 18, 1926

Charles L. Harrison, president of Cape Girardeau Bridge Co., says bids for construction of traffic bridge over Mississippi River here will be opened Dec. 3, and actual work will start before end of that month; it is believed bridge can be completed by end of 1927.

Wheat in Cape Girardeau County during past season averaged 19 bushels to the acre, greatest yield in recent years and six bushels greater than average over long period of years; all Southeast Missouri counties reported high wheat yields for this season, with Cape Girardeau, New Madrid, Scott and Stoddard each reporting average of about 19 bushels an acre.
