25 years ago: Nov. 17, 1984

Four helicopters from Scott Air Force Base near Belleville, Ill., thunder into Cape Girardeau carrying about 30 members of a U.S. Army Reserve medical unit, which will soon be headquartered here; two of the helicopters touch down on top of the parking garage at Southeast Missouri Hospital and the other two land at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Despite inclement weather, Britt Airways reported a pretty fair passenger business at the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport during October; the airline served a total of 1,918 passengers.

50 years ago: Nov. 17, 1959

BENTON, Mo. -- Four men and a red-headed woman, captured at Steeleville, Mo., last evening, are being questioned by federal, state and local authorities about their admitted robbery of the State Bank of Oran of $11,491 yesterday morning; their dream of easy riches was shattered only seven hours and 40 minutes after two of the men held a pistol and shotgun on bank employees, scooped up cash in the tills and fled.

The Missouri Division of Health has issued a practical nursing home license to the Maple Crest Nursing Home, 430 N. Frederick St.; it is operated by Donald McMullen.

75 years ago: Nov. 17, 1934

Cape Girardeau's cotton crop is being picked; John Temple is picking, with the aid of helpers, his 10-acre crop on South Sprigg Street, just east of Giboney Park; P.J. Johnson has about two acres of cotton on the Billy Woods farm south of the cement plant; the cotton is hauled in trucks to the Morley, Mo., gin.

City engineer John Walther has just completed a survey for laying out 80 new burial lots in Fairmount Cemetery; the lots are in the northwest corner of the cemetery.

100 years ago: Nov. 17, 1909

The state convention of the YMCA clubs is in session in Webb City, Mo., this week, and Cape Girardeau is receiving strong consideration to be next in line for a YMCA building.

D.A. Glenn yesterday sold to a company represented by Ralph Armantrout 10 acres in the west end, adjoining the Giboney property on the east; it is probable that the tract will be laid out in lots; it is one of the nicest locations in the city.
