The Coalesce Club is working with Cape Girardeau County officials to decorate the Common Pleas Courthouse for Christmas; decorations were selected by the club and approved and purchased through the county; the decorations will portray a natural appearance that will enhance the traditional style of the courthouse.

Thousands of Missouri hunters take to the state's forests as the first day of the annual gun season on deer gets underway at 7 a.m.; unofficial reports are that many deer are being killed; hunting conditions are a little short of ideal, following heavy rains that stripped foliage from trees and wet down ground cover to reduce noise.
The State College Indians shelve their football togs for the year after writing into the record books another brilliant season climaxed by Saturday night's game, a 27-27 deadlock with the Bees of St. Ambrose College before a crowd of 4,000 at Houck Stadium.
75 years ago: Nov. 17, 1933
Establishing a precedent for colleges of the Midwest, the Teachers College Board of Regents votes on scholarships, which will be available to children of parents who lost their lives while in service with the American forces during the World War; the action not only makes this college the first in the Midwest to take such steps, but one of the first in the nation.
Dr. Edythe Mange, former associate professor of history at the University of Illinois, is chosen dean of women of the Teachers College by the board of regents.
100 years ago: Nov. 17, 1908
Fireman H.C. Brock, who was injured in the explosion of the Frisco engine boiler yesterday, died last night at Saint Francis Hospital.
The Adams Orphans' Home children, 14 of the older ones, were guests of Herman Bock at the Lyric Theater last night; the Cape Girardeau orphanage currently has 21 children.
