Jackson - The Rev. Rodney H. Travis has been elected first vice president of Missouri Baptist Convention during its recent 156th annual meeting in Springfield; Travis has been pastor of 1,800-member First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1982.

Hanover Lutheran Church Family and Education Center is dedicated at 3 p.m. at church, 2949 Perryville Road; guest preacher at service is the Rev. James Kalthoff, president of Missouri District of Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

25 years ago: Nov. 17, 1976

Piece of old St. Vincent's Catholic Church is being moved to new edifice, 741 Forest, which will be dedicated Dec. 8; scaffolding has been raised behind apse of old church, and workers are removing three stained glass windows, which will be incorporated into new church; valuable windows are covered on outside with protective glass, obscuring their view to passersby.

Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau County both were successful yesterday in getting federal recreation projects; bulk of money, $200,000, was awarded city for construction of city-school system swimming pool at Central High School.

50 years ago: Nov. 17, 1951

Dr. A.C. Magill, in his forty-third year as member of faculty, is feted at dinner at Memorial Hall as closing feature of 1951 State College homecoming program; event is reunion for Magill family; it marks first time that Magill's sisters and brother have been here together.

State College Indians trounce Southern Illinois University Salukis of Carbondale, 45-6, before slim Homecoming crowd, which is low because of extreme cold.

75 years ago: Nov. 17, 1926

Keith A. Bumback, former Girardean and now resident of Washington, D.C., spends night here before going on to Washington tomorrow; he comes from Memphis, Tenn., where he attended International Convention of Christian Church; Brumback was sent there by Garfield Memorial Church at Washington as one of members of committee which has launched movement to raise $1,000,000 for national church in Washington.

Only two college annuals in Missouri received mention in national contest for best annuals published in country, these being The Sagamore, published by Teachers College at Cape Girardeau, and The Tattler, published by William Jewell College at Liberty.
