25 years ago: Nov. 16, 1980

The annual Mission Festival Observance for Trinity Lutheran Church is being held this weekend; guest speaker for the event is the Rev. Luther Meinzen, who has served as a missionary in India since 1948.

A Cape Girardeau police vehicle was overturned yesterday morning while parked in the 700 block of North Sprigg Street; patrolman Leonard S. Minor, driving a Cushman three-wheeled vehicle, responded to a report of a loud party at 708 N. Sprigg St.; after talking to the renters of the property inside the house, Minor returned to find his vehicle overturned.

50 years ago: Nov. 16, 1955

Winter's first onslaught hits Cape Girardeau in the early morning, and the mercury tumbles on the wings of heavy winds and rain out of the northwest as a major cold front blows in; before the cold arrives, a storm hits the Jonesboro, Ill., area causing $100,000 damage; part of the same storm causes damage in the vicinity of Egypt Mills.

A pleasure yacht owned by two men from Gary, Ind., is in the yards of the Missouri Dry Dock and Repair Co. undergoing repairs before it can continue southward; the vessel was damaged when it ran aground recently on a sandbar north of Cape Girardeau.

75 years ago: Nov. 16, 1930

Regular services are held as usual at the General Baptist Church on Broadway; the Rev. R.M. Barrett, who has been absent from the church for two years, has again become its pastor.

Christ Episcopal Church is to get a new roof; the present board roof, which was laid when the structure was built, is being replaced with modern, fireproof shingles; the new shingles probably will be more durable, but some complain that they subtract from the architectural attractiveness of the building.

100 years ago: Nov. 16, 1905

Edward F. Regenhardt, the contractor for the Normal School buildings, has about completed his work on the immense Academic building, which is the finest school building in Missouri; Regenhardt's work has been beyond expectations, and as the building may not be formally dedicated for some time, it is possible he will invite the public to call Sunday and inspect the structure.

With a blast from No. 5, the best engine on the Houck line, a special train leaves the Cape Girardeau and Chester station in the morning, to be the first train to make the through trip to Perryville, Mo.
