Congregation of Second Baptist Church celebrates its 125th anniversary with special services; anniversary observance is held during afternoon service, and guests include the Rev. Johnny Thomas and members of congregation from New Bethel Baptist Church.

Sept. 14 propane gas explosion has claimed life of second victim; Susan Ann Miller died yesterday at St. John's Mercy Hospital in St. Louis; Miller, 20, had been patient in burn unit of hospital since accident; Mrs. Joseph VanGennip, 63, of Lutesville, died Oct. 21 of injuries received in explosion.
Construction of new main fire station for city is expected to begin within a year, says City Manager W.G. Lawley; such facility has been planned for five or six years; station will replace fire station No. 1 at corner of Independence and Frederick; when it is abandoned, city will likely use old building as garage for repair of vehicles and equipment.
50 years ago: Nov. 15, 1952
Between 3,000 and 4,500 geese have folded their wings and plunged earthward in Missouri-Illinois annual waterfowl shooting season; wildlife officials estimate nearly twice that number will be bagged during remaining two weeks; wild good shoot is concentrated in Southern Illinois' famed Horseshoe Lake area and spills over into feeding areas fowl use in Missouri.
More than 250 entry cards have been mailed to area artists who wish to present their work in sixth annual Missourian Art Exhibition Nov. 22-23; scores of paintings have arrived and are waiting to be hung in The Missourian Building, where show will be held; this year there will be two guest artists: Gustave F. Goetsch and Fred Dreher, both of St. Louis.
75 years ago: Nov. 15, 1927
It is learned that local Missouri Utilities Co. officials have been approached by officials of corporation, which will run natural gas pipeline from Louisiana to St. Louis, with opportunity to handle natural gas for them in Cape Girardeau; number of area towns, including Jackson, Poplar Bluff, Fredericktown and Dexter, had earlier been approached directly by company, giving them opportunity to secure natural gas for their towns; Cape Girardeau is only city in district which already has gas supply.
Student government for Central High School is possibility within next few months; senior class has voted to present petition to faculty asking for establishment of this form of government, and will take case to entire school latter part of the week; movement started with football team.
