A movement to draft Mayor Walter H. Ford to seek another term in office may be developing in the wake of his announcement he won't be a candidate next year; what form any organized effort might take is still a question at this stage.

Cape Girardeau's bank book made better reading once again last month than it did a year ago; the monthly financial statement for October issued by city clerk Verna L. Landis shows a general balance of $131,241.97 as of the last day of the month; the year before, that figure was $94,855.25.

1938

There are 110 men employed on the three major building projects in Cape Girardeau, as construction firms increase their forces to rush completion; 40 men are working for the McCarthy Bros. Construction Co. on the Saint Francis Hospital addition, 41 by the same firm on the library building at Teachers College and 29 are employed by the E.A. Brunson Construction Co. on the men's dormitory at the college.

Cape Girardeau will be without a Thanksgiving Day football game this year, with neither the Teachers College Indians nor the Central Tigers having scheduled one.

1913

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- In a fight with three hoboes, who had drifted into town a few days ago, William Maynard and Eli Payne received several wounds yesterday; at present, Chaffee is overrun with tramps.

Police officer Ben Gockel of the downtown beat turns in his resignation to the mayor and asks to be relieved from duty as soon as possible.
