A Missouri Pacific railroad crew has completed sealing with asphalt strips along the tracks on Independence Street; work on several intersections on that street is slated, possibly within the next two weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank V. Caldwell, residing northwest of Jackson, will have 1,500 turkeys for the market, all raised from poults bought in the spring; while most will be sold, they have arranged to provide 100 or more for Althenthal-Joerns American Legion Post of Jackson for the turkey shoot to be held Saturday at Legion Park.

75 years ago: Nov. 14, 1936

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A feature not on the program for the dinner of the alumni of the Cape Girardeau Teachers College here last night was the unexpected visit to the meeting and address by Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of the president; the banquet at the Hotel President preceded the night session of the Missouri Teachers Association, at which Roosevelt spoke.

With more reports coming in of vicious dog and cat attacks on children, chief of police Herbert F. Wickham reiterates a call for all Girardeans to house their pets; Wickham fears a general outbreak of rabies here.

100 years ago: Nov. 14, 1911

U.S. Marshal E.F. Regenhardt has written a letter to the Commercial Club endorsing, after careful inquiries, the company which proposes to establish a water heater manufacturing plant in Cape Girardeau.

The leading dentists of Southeast Missouri are gathered in Cape Girardeau for their annual convention, meeting in the Commercial Club rooms.
