The Cape Girardeau County pay commission has approved maximum pay increases for 12 county offices; eight of the nine county officials serving on the commission voted in favor of the raises.

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' on-sight inspection has found no significant problems with development of an industrial park along Highway 74; a federal permit for the Six-Thirty Development Corp. project could be issued within the next several weeks.

1962

Martin Milner, who plays Tod on television's "Route 66" series, is on Route 61 and makes a hasty stop at Colonial Restaurant at noon; the actor is en route from St. Louis to Memphis, Tenn., where another episode of the adventure series will be filmed.

An expanded and modernized Montgomery Ward and Co. store, 18 N. Main St., will hold a grand opening Thursday; the event will mark the completion of a 14,000-square-foot, one-story addition to the store's south side.

1937

Tom G. Harris of the Harris Motor Car Co. secures a city permit for construction of a storage structure, to be located on Spanish Street, at the east end of the Harris used-car lot; Harris is also having the List house at Broadway and Lorimier Street razed and plans later to erect an annex there; the improvements will make the motor car firm's property extend nearly the full length of the block.

After being apart 67 years, Logan Arnold, 74, of Eldon, Mo., is visiting his sister, Mrs. N.J. Brown, 84, at her Cape Girardeau home; the siblings are spending several weeks together in an effort to catch up with their delayed visiting.

1912

Eighteen sealed bids are opened by the board of the Little River Drainage District from that many contracting firms desiring to get jobs in the big reclamation work that is being started in Southeast Missouri; the auction bids received yesterday and today's sealed bids will be duly considered by the board this afternoon; some contracts may be announced tonight or tomorrow.

After canvassing the vote for the special road districts in Cape Girardeau and Byrd townships, the County Court yesterday ordered that the districts be organized and that a new law go into effect on and from Nov. 15.
