25 years ago: Nov. 12, 1985

The long process of acquiring approval of all the federal and state agencies that have input into a project like the Mississippi River port planned for development near Scott City has been completed; the board of commissioners for the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority has received certification from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Loretta Schneider, 48, a two-term Cape Girardeau City Council member, becomes the second candidate to file for mayor; also seeking that post is council member Donald Strohmeyer.

50 years ago: Nov. 12, 1960

Norman Wenskay of Cape Girardeau and George Seyboldt of Jackson have been appointed to the Cape Girardeau County Selective Service Board; other members of the board are George T. Alt, chairman; Earl Schultz, secretary; and Ernest Robison.

This morning's State College Homecoming parade is the largest here since the city's 1956 sesquicentennial celebration; 65 units march, including 38 bands from high schools as far away as Pacific, Steelville and Union, Mo.

75 years ago: Nov. 12, 1935

The chances of Lester Seabaugh, 1000 S. Benton St., having a generous supply of pork and sausage in the near future were given a big setback Monday night when his fine hog was stolen from its pen; the animal, weighing about 300 pounds, was killed in the pen, then carried or hauled away.

Cape Girardeau firemen will devote their spare time from now until Christmas repairing and remaking used toys, which they will turn over to Santa Claus to be distributed to children who otherwise might be without playthings.

100 years ago: Nov. 12, 1910

Although the visiting Carbondale, Ill., Normal School footballers outweighed the local Normal players, the Illinoisans were handed a 12-0 victory yesterday; with almost the first play, the Cape Girardeau boys showed their superiority; Ed and Ben Lightfoot, W. Martin and Bernard all made ground consistently.

Arthur Lorimier of St. Louis is in Cape Girardeau visiting friends; his wife has been here for some time with relatives and friends.
