Every program in Cape Girardeau Public Schools is "fair game" for budget ax that is set to fall this spring, says Supt. Neyland Clark; school board heard report about upcoming $1 million budget cut at last night's meeting.

Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Board has formally approved motion to request city tourism funds to develop sports complex at Shawnee Park; voters last year rejected tax hike to fund five-field softball facility at Shawnee Park, but members of park board said Monday that tourism funds would be alternate way to fund complex.

25 years ago: Nov. 12, 1976

With snow sticking to ground in some parts of Bootheel and 17-degree low which barely missed tying record set in 1911 of 16 degrees, Southeast Missouri area shivered through another night of winter's early onslaught; for Cape Girardeau firemen, it is especially cold morning, as they battle small but expensive fire at Leming Lumber Co. in south Cape Girardeau; firefighters are at scene over four hours.

Longtime president and member of Southeast Missouri District Fair Association, L.R. Roper, was honored last night at annual meeting for his faithful contributions; he was presented plaque in appreciation for his work on behalf of fair.

50 years ago: Nov. 12, 1951

Examples of ceramic work will form important part in art show which will be held this weekend in The Missourian Building; annual show this year is fifth one; ceramic plates on display will be work of two students of Anderson Ceramic Studio, Marea C. Daume and Carolyn Ochs, as well as Mr. Anderson.

Eight Illinoisans were injured when automobile left Highway 3 just south of Gale, Ill., railroad underpass shortly before midnight Saturday; seven were brought to St. Francis Hospital for treatment.

75 years ago: Nov. 12, 1926

New half-million dollar hotel for Cape Girardeau is assured; committee in charge announces at noon luncheon at Hotel Idan-Ha that $45,000 necessary to assure construction of attractive, six-story structure has been pledged locally.

Chief of Police W.C. Kelpe and Patrolman Curtis L. Childs, together with three prisoners they are transporting to county jail at Jackson, narrowly escape serious injury in evening when automobile driven by chief is sideswiped by motor bus of Southeast Missouri Transit Co., en route to Cape Girardeau from St. Louis, near city limits.
