A costumed robber tied up a clerk and helped himself to jewelry and cash during a Halloween heist yesterday at Prime Time Rentals, 612 Morgan Oak; no one was injured in the robbery, and police have made no arrests.

State Sen. Stephen Sharp of Kennett, Missouri, says he will support the appointment of John Hall Dalton as a Democrat on the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission; Dalton, a Kennett attorney, and former state senator Albert M. Spradling Jr., of Cape Girardeau reportedly are among top candidates from Southeast Missouri being considered for the appointment.

FROHNA, Mo. -- The Saxon Lutheran Memorial is dedicated in the afternoon, with Dr. O. Harms, president of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, delivering the main address; the memorial is the recently restored Old Bergt Homestead here, which has been in the Bergt family since April 1840.

The Rev. Harry Schlitt of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish in Cape Girardeau received the Major Order of Deaconate last Sunday at the Church of the Twelve Apostles in Rome; he will be ordained to the priesthood Dec. 16 at St. Peter's Basilica.

1939

Following a mild Halloween parade sponsored by the American Legion, thousands of revelers last night jammed the city's three main business districts; the usual pranks were performed: windows were soaped, restaurant signs relocated and sewer covers removed; but no real harm was done.

Bob and Bette, the sky jitterbugs, will do their dance atop a tall pole located on the D.E. Fletcher building at 207 Broadway, it is announced; the building was selected because the streets and areas nearby will afford ample space for the crowds to assemble to watch the three free performances Saturday.

1914

The Halloween party given by the management of the West End Hall last night was one of the most pleasant and largest attended affairs of the season, furnishing amusement to nearly 100 young people.

Numerous boys and girls were out on the streets of Jackson last night in costumes, pulling off all kinds of harmless stunts and enjoying themselves hugely; Halloween parties were held at several places in the city.
