Employees of Florsheim Shoe Co. who walked off their jobs Monday despite urging of union officials to return to work set up picket lines at Florsheim's second Cape Girardeau plant on North Main; walkout stems from pay dispute involving two employees at plant at South Boulevard and Highway 74.

Further expansion of Doctors Park, which ultimately will double development acreage of medical complex, is moving beyond planning stage; request has been submitted by Doctors Park Inc., to city council to rezone 21.3 acres owned by corporation from R-1, residential, to C-1, local commercial.

Southeast Missouri sportsmen put aside their guns and fishing rods in compliance with executive order by Gov. Forrest Smith late yesterday that bans all hunting, fishing and outdoor activities in move to halt spread of state's devastating forest fires; ban comes as hunting season approaches its peak -- time when duck, geese, deer, quail and rabbit would all be in legal season.

Few acts of vandalism by Halloween pranksters were reported last night, and police credit high school football game as one of reasons; officers say most of youngsters seen about town were of younger, trick-or-treat set who did nothing worse than soap store and auto windows; most older children were at Central High-Sikeston game at Houck Stadium.

75 years ago: Nov. 1, 1927

Plans and estimates of construction costs on two suggested routes for Highway 61 through Scott and New Madrid counties should be in hands of members of rival associations, West Route Association and Kingshighway Association, within a few hours, according to communication from T.H. Cutler, chief engineer of State Highway Department.

Leaving Marianna, Fla., at 8 yesterday morning, A.F. Astholz of West Palm Beach, Fla., arrives in Cape Girardeau at 1 p.m. today, making trip in 29 hours and winning wager that he couldn't make run in 30 hours; accompanying him are his sister, Mrs. Agnes Adams, and her daughter, Louise.
