25 years ago: Nov. 2, 1983

A man hired to guard documents of the plaintiffs' lawyers in the Westborough Mall federal lawsuit reports to police he was injured early today when someone threw a large fire extinguisher through a glass door of the office housing the papers; the man was cut on the forehead and arm.

The Cape Girardeau City Council approves a package liquor license for the proposed service station/convenience store and deli restaurant across the street from First Baptist Church.

50 years ago: Nov. 2, 1958

One of the heaviest deer kills on record in a confined area in the Midwest took place Friday in Alexander and Union counties as the three-day Illinois gun season got started; 151 animals had been brought in to the check station at the Union County Wildlife Refuge at 4:30 p.m., and more hunters were still to be heard from.

Pvt. Ken Teichman, who has just completed his basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at San Diego, is spending a 15-day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Teichman of Cape Girardeau.

75 years ago: Nov. 2, 1933

Noting the success of the American Legion Halloween Mardi Gras on Tuesday night, City Commissioner Edward Willer urges the revival of the old Capaha Festival; it was a community event held at night, usually on Thursday of the week of the Cape County Fair.

A new American-LaFrance firetruck is tested at the lagoon in Fairground Park; Dr. G.T. Dorris, mayor of Illmo, and fire chief Gib Martin and other firefighters from the Scott County town are here for the test.

100 years ago: Nov. 2, 1908

Voters are urged to cast their ballots in tomorrow's presidential election in the correct precincts; those living in the Courthouse Precinct will ballot at the Common Pleas Courthouse, Schultz Precinct at Schultz's barber shop on Broadway, West End Precinct at the Cape City Bottling Works on North Pacific Street, Steimle Precinct at the Cape Cigar Co. store in Haarig and Pecan Grove Precinct at Pecan Grove School.

Candidates for various offices are heard by a good-sized crowd at the Common Pleas Courthouse in the evening.
