The Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission approved plans to relocate the Highway 25 Diversion Channel bridge north of Blomeyer; the commission approved plans for construction of a new bridge and raising of the grade north of the bridge by about 6 1/2 feet.

Jackson firefighters are requesting better working conditions, including a pay increase and reduced hours; the two full-time firemen now work 78 hours a week and are on call the rest of the time, except for one off-duty day a month; firemen are among the lowest paid members on the city salary schedule despite the long hours.

Farm land owners immediately southwest of Cape Girardeau have filed petitions opposing an annexation proposal that would incorporate their property into the city limits.

The State Teachers College, launching its greatest building program since the construction of Houck Stadium, will have its two new structures under construction the coming week; foundation work for the library and museum building is well underway, and work on the new dormitory should begin early next week.

The remodeling of Broadway Theater will include the installation of a new kind of theater seats; the seats of the chairs fold back against the backs of the chairs, permitting an occupant to stand up within the chair and leaving the aisle clear for people to pass.

A committee appointed to investigate requests made by Frisco Railroad officials to alter plans for its riverfront improvements reported last night to the City Council; the Frisco wishes to build the toe-wall on the waterfront of dimension stone instead of more expensive concrete; it also wishes to build the new passenger station of concrete instead of the agreed upon brick or stone.

Mayor F.A. Kage vetoed the water-and-light ordinance recently passed by the council granting a franchise to the local company.
