An offer by the Cape Girardeau Jaycees to furnish seating and lighting for a Central High School football field was turned down last night by the school board; the Jaycees' proposition wasn't accepted by the board because, as the board indicated, it would mean a commitment by the school district of large expenditures when Houck Stadium is available at a nominal rental fee.
The Oddfellows burned a $10,000 mortgage in a ceremony Monday night at the Oddfellows Hall; after making payments for seven and a half years, the Oddfellows now own the two-story brick building at 825 S. Ellis St.

The very bad condition of the drinking water in Cape Girardeau is causing many people to ask what the city is doing to better water and light service; a six-member committee appointed several weeks ago by the mayor to work with the water and light company toward a franchise agreement has yet to begin its labors.
