A study to determine the advisability of countywide zoning for Cape Girardeau County is being conducted by a Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce committee.

State college officials -- alerted recently when parked cars blocked a fire truck from entering Circle Drive behind Academic Hall -- have forbidden parking on the north side of the thoroughfare; the potential danger was discovered when a small fire broke out in a trash can and fire trucks couldn't reach it.

Christ Evangelical Church launches a five-year plan for the retirement of the debt on its church building; each member of the congregation will be interviewed and given an opportunity to make a pledge or a cash offering to the cause; the debt stands at $11,500.

Marking The Missourian newspaper's 33rd anniversary brings two major achievements: A paid circulation that has passed the 9,000 mark, and the acquisition of a new Duplex tubular newspaper press, the latest in modern printing machinery.

Capt. Sam Tanner, for many years public administrator of Scott County and a resident of Sikeston, Mo., was struck by a fast passenger train on the Iron Mountain in Poplar Bluff, Mo., yesterday; he sustained serious head injuries in the accident.

Judge C.B. Faris no longer presides over the circuit courts of this district; he has sent his resignation to Gov. H.S. Hadley, to take effect Oct. 4; Faris explains that he thought it best to give up his position because he is a candidate for the supreme bench; he didn't want to draw his salary while devoting his time to seeking election.
