Registration for the 129th annual meeting of the Missouri Baptist Convention begins at noon at the host First Baptist Church; about 500 people are expected to enroll today, with another 1,000 registering by noon tomorrow.

Noah E. Gray, superintendent of schools in the Lindbergh School District of St. Louis County, will head the State College Alumni Association for the next two years; Gray, a 1947 graduate of the college, was elected at the annual luncheon business session Saturday.

WOLF ISLAND, Mo. -- Ninety percent of the bumper corn and cotton crops in the Birds Point-New Madrid Floodway is in bale and crib as farmers taking advantage of an unusual fall season have turned in a record harvest in record time, three weeks before the usual harvest schedule.

With 260 men and women employed, the Superior Electric Corp. plant is now releasing a payroll every two weeks in Cape Girardeau of between $9,000 and $10,000, exclusive of the salaries of executives; production is about 75 percent of what was the peak output before the firm moved here from St. Louis this year.

BENTON, Mo. -- There promises to be a lively fight in this county over the appointment of postmasters; in fact, at Sikeston, Mo., where there is soon to be a vacancy, the fight has been waging for some time; no matter who is appointed, all the other patriots will feel sore.

Charles H. Shaw, brother of Mrs. George S. Hanford, arrived Saturday from Chicago for an extended visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hanford, 26 S. Lorimier St.; until quite recently, Shaw was one of the owners and managers of the New Southern Hotel in Chicago.
