About 55 percent of Cape Girardeau County's registered voters are expected to go to the polls Tuesday; the large turnout is the result of voter interest in a local proposition to repeal the Blue Law Sunday sales ban, various statewide tax proposition, the 8th District congressional race, and the 159th District state representative race.

Jackson Mayor Carlton Meyer yesterday cut the ribbon at the entrance of a foot bridge during a dedication ceremony at the city's newest park -- Litz Park.

50 years ago: Oct. 28, 1957

Women from the Ninth District of the Missouri Federation of Women's Clubs are assembling in Cape Girardeau today and tomorrow for their 49th annual fall convention.

The Scott County District R-1 Board of Education is advertising the sale of three school buildings and their lots; the largest is the Fornfelt community building, which is on Main Street; the others are the Fornfelt junior high school and the Illmo grade school.

75 years ago: Oct. 28, 1932

Cape Girardeau County hunters accounted for at least two deer as the three-day season opened yesterday; G.C. Mozo and C.H. Gammon, both of Cape Girardeau, return with a buck the former bagged five miles north of Williamsville, Mo.; J.A. Snider of Oak Ridge and George Snider of St. Louis, sons of Sheriff Nat M. Snider, returned late yesterday with a 10-point buck; George Snider killed the deer with a single shot about 12 miles northwest of Doniphan, Mo.

Foundation work has been started on a six-room brick residence for the Eckhardt family at 5 N. Fountain St.; the old, two-story frame residence on the site has been razed.

100 years ago: Oct. 28, 1907

The second number of the Normal School lecture course will feature U.S. Sen. Robert M. La Follette of Wisconsin at the Normal auditorium Wednesday evening; he will speak on some of the great national questions now before the people.

The Normal School football team was sadly defeated at St. Louis Saturday by the Washington University team, 24-0; the boys offer no excuses, except that they were outplayed.
