Perryville - Pre-application notice for grant of $150,000 to help Southeast Missouri State University purchase 300 acres of untouched natural forest land in north Cape Girardeau County was unanimously endorsed by Southeast Missouri Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission last night;.

Sikeston - Voters will be asked Nov. 2 to approve sale of $250 million in construction bonds for city electrical generating plant that should pay for itself with outside contract sales and savings to consumers; faced with dilemma over where power for city's expanding needs would come from in 10 years, City Council has recommenced construction of facility to meet those demands.

50 years ago: Oct. 27, 1951

Federally approved price increase to milk producers in St. Louis milkshed will mean money in pockets for Cape Girardeau County producers, but it will also mean higher cost to customers here within next few weeks; Sanitary Milk Producers, organization of farmers who supply milk to St. Louis dairies, announces that Department of Agriculture has allowed it an increase of 40 cents per centiweight for milk deliveries in December and 26 cents per centiweight increase on yearly averages.

Nick Carter Jr., announces opening of Carter Cab Co.; Carter and his father founded Broadway Cab Co. in 1946, later selling out to present owners; Carters also formerly operated Yellow Cab Co. here; new, four-taxicab company will be operated from 122 N. Sprigg.

75 years ago: Oct. 27, 1926

Installation of third main feeder circuit to supplement electrical service given main downtown section of Cape Girardeau will be completed and in service within two weeks, says Manager H.B. Newman of Missouri Utilities Co.; new circuit is being established from plant on north side to downtown business section to give additional service to area and to be used also for entire city in case of trouble.

About 50 men attend "stag" affair given in evening by Elks, dedicating their new lodge rooms at corner of Broadway and Pacific; "The Wrecking Crew Orchestra" furnishes music for event; following program, oyster supper is served to guests, including representatives from lodges of Illmo, Fornfelt and Advance.-- Sharon K.
