Homecoming week at Southeast Missouri State University begins; a number of special activities are scheduled throughout the week leading up to the Homecoming dance and football game next weekend; the Indians, coming off a 53-0 win over Lincoln University, will square off against Northwest Missouri State University.

An opposition slate of five Cape Girardeau women has entered the election contest for five places on the Chamber of Commerce board of directors; candidates for the board are Bill Back, Kenneth Hayden, Loretta Schneider and Linda Cochran (at large); Pete Poe and Mary Foote (service), Cliff Rudesill and Judy Wilferth (retail) and Jack Stanley and Leta Bahn (industrial); there has never been a woman on the chamber board, although women have been nominated in the past.

50 years ago: Oct. 26, 1956

Coming at the end of a long exhibition season, the Fort Wayne Pistons downed the St. Louis Hawks last night in a ragged game, 86-82, at the Jackson High School gymnasium.

Construction is progressing on the two new wings for Trinity Lutheran School, and the roofing work is nearly done; only finishing masonry and brickwork remain to be done on that type of work; general contractor for the project is Burton Gerhardt Co.

75 years ago: Oct. 26, 1931

Work begins on the construction of the new annex to the fire department headquarters in Cape Girardeau; excavation for the foundation footings is begun, and steel is being hauled and placed on the site; construction workers are being hired by day labor.

The Badgett Construction Co. of Memphis, Tenn., begins work on the Mississippi River revetment project between the Frisco freight depot and the Marquette Cement Mfg. Co. plant.

100 years ago: Oct. 26, 1906

As brilliant a reception dance as has been enjoyed by the young society people of Cape Girardeau this season was given last evening by Clara and Helen Albert at their home in honor of Margaret Lansden of Cairo, Ill., who departs today for her home; the visitor to Rebecca Houck has been the recipient of much attention while spending three weeks at Elmwood.

The new Rex Roller Rink, formerly the old Armory Hall, opens to the public in the evening; the rink is under the management of E.P., Ford, who has had a fine hardwood floor installed.
