The 1987 Otto F. Dingeldein Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts has been presented to local artist Mary Ann "Miki" Gudermuth.

Ten Cape Girardeau buildings are revealed as public fallout shelters by the city civil defense director, Mrs. H.I.K. Carter, who was flooded yesterday by inquiries from Girardeans, stirred to a new interest in civil defense by the Cuban missile crisis; the buildings are the Marquette Hotel, United Church of Christ, Hirsch Midtown Grocery, Washington School, Central High School, First Baptist Church, Junior High School, Arena Building, H.-H. Building, and Houck Field House.

The corner of Sprigg and Merriwether and the tract at Frederick and Merriwether known as "Happy Hollow" are revealed to be under consideration as possible sites for the new post office building.

Dr. R.H. Daugherty preaches his final sermon as pastor of Centenary Methodist Church, this topic being "The Problem of Forgiveness"; Daugherty and his family will move to Moberly, Mo., where he will assume his new pastoral duties.

The Rev. William H. Wolfe, pastor of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church, presides at his first communion as new pastor of the church.

Cape Girardeau has been turned over to the teachers of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association, who are coming here for their annual convention; many came in last night, and every train brings more.

Wash Devore and Joe Manning of Bollinger County passed through Cape Girardeau last night on their way to Fruitland to buy some Jersey cattle.
