Marble Hill, Mo. -- Since death of longtime Alderman F.X. Peters in February, three remaining members of Marble Hill Board of Aldermen have been unable to agree upon whom to appoint as replacement; as result, board is often in stalemate since it takes all three members to have quorum for meetings and unanimous votes to take action.
Cape Girardeau's Board of Education has set three meetings in November to solicit citizen input on plans to change district grade configurations; at study session of school board Wednesday, members said they want community reactions to plan to proceed toward implementation of middle school, with or without a new building; several different grade arrangements were discussed.

With its caseload surpassing saturation point, Cape County Nursing Service approaches county court with proposal to add two additional permanent staff members; Kevin McCurren, president of nursing service's advisory council, appears before county judges to discuss service's upcoming budget request; funding request will include $4,000 annual increase and permission to add third registered nurse and nurse aide to service.
Cairo, Ill. -- In effort to prepare 1979 county budget, Alexander County Commissioners order all officials to submit list of their expenditures under present budget by Nov. 13.

Teacher in Old Lorimier School, and founder of Girardot, Central High School's yearbook, Mrs. J.L. Riley of McArthur, Calif., is one of many who have come long distances to attend State College Homecoming; former Bertha K. Gowan of DeSoto and her husband drove from McArthur with their trailer, and here are at West Mount Garden trailer camp.
School officials are holding to timetable under which they expect new Central High School gymnasium to be ready for use in February before end of basketball season; superintendent L.J. Schultz reports concrete sub-floor has been poured on unexcavated portion of gym, and remainder will be poured next week upon arrival of special structural materials.
75 years ago: Oct. 23, 1928
Herman Pape, local contractor, has been awarded contract for remodeling of Drusch building on Broadway, which will be occupied soon by Bartels Mercantile Co.; work on structure will begin as soon as Neal's Hardware Store, which occupies first floor of building, has been moved to its new building further west on Broadway.
Herman Hoyer and Herbert Rauh arrive home in Cape Girardeau at 5 p.m., following hitch-hike to Kansas City and back; they left Cape Girardeau Oct. 13, and their return trip was begun Thursday of last week.
