Saying she "no longer sees the need for it," Cape Girardeau Councilwoman Cecelia M. "Skeets" Sonderman says she will make a motion to abolish the one-way status of several blocks of Broadway; the street has been one-way eastbound between Pacific and Lorimier streets for six years.

A shift in sentiment on the issue of Sunday store openings has occurred in Cape Girardeau the past month, a Missourian survey shows; a random sampling shows 52 percent of the respondents oppose repeal of the Sunday Blue Law in this county, 35 percent favor it, and 13 percent are undecided.

Six sisters were reunited in Cape Girardeau recently for the first time in 35 years; the sisters, daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bird of Bloomfield, Mo., are Mrs. Florence Murphy of Detroit, Mrs. Garneth Battles of St. Louis, Mrs. Floyd Brown of Cape Girardeau, Mrs. Jewell Willer of St. Louis, Mrs. Elgie Robinson of Arcadia, Calif., and Mrs. Bertha Hedge of La Centra, Calif.

BENTON, Mo. -- Benton voters approve a $72,000 revenue bond issue and a $51,000 general obligation bond issue, which will finance the construction of a sewage disposal system.

75 years ago: Oct. 22, 1932

Another historical landmark in Cape Girardeau has been removed; one of the two marks designating the high water line of the Mississippi River flood of 1844 has been obliterated in the remodeling of the first floor of the old Sturdivant Bank building; the other mark is on the old Albert building, 20 Independence St.

With one convention over, Cape Girardeau prepares for another; the 1932 Southeast Missouri Teachers Association meeting ended last night, while the 37th quadrennial session of the Supreme Council of Western Catholic Union will convene tomorrow.

100 years ago: Oct. 22, 1907

Cape Girardeau County residents had a great time watching the balloons last night, which floated over this area from the St. Louis races.

Union Station is looking natural again these days; John Neal, the efficient station agent, is back there again after a lapse of a few months, during which time he tried the freight department.
