Cape Girardeau County loses one of its most useful citizens with the death of Robert M. Sawyer at Cape Girardeau; Sawyer was born near Fruitland in December 1854, the son of Judge John J. and Nancy M. Templeton Sawyer; he married the former Martha E. Wallace in 1878 and for a time they farmed near his old home; he was admitted to the bar in 1893, moving to Jackson to reside; his removal to Cape Girardeau was a recent occurrence, to allow him to be near his physician.
