The Post Office Department has acquired options on property at Bellevue and Frederick as a possible site for a new post office; options are also being acquired in at least one other neighborhood, and no decision has yet been made on where the new structure will be built.

Former President Harry Truman, along with Sen. Edward V. Long, Missouri Secretary of State Warren E. Hearnes and State Auditor Haskel Holman, will be among those attending the 10th Congressional Democratic Rally Tuesday evening at the Arena Building.

1937

Based on the condition of the crop as of Oct. 1, the cotton yield in Southeast Missouri counties this year should reach 370,000 bales, 20 percent greater than in 1936 and the largest crop in history.

The formal re-opening of the remodeled Buckner-Ragsdale Co. store, Main and Broadway, is held in the evening; the event also marks the 30th anniversary of the company in Cape Girardeau; the store was expanded earlier this year with the construction of a two-story addition at the rear of the Water Street frontage.

1912

M.E. Leming arrived in Cape Girardeau last night from Texas to spend a few days with his family before going to points in the East; on his return, he will spend several weeks at home.

Clarence Lorenz, who has been the elevator boy at the H.-H. Building for the past month, has resigned that post; he has accepted a position in the office of the freight depot.
