Jackson -- Jackson High football Indians broke into win column Friday night and did it against their archrivals, Cape Girardeau Central Tigers; Indians claimed 14-7 victory before about 8,000 fans; both teams are now 1-5 on season.

25 years ago: Oct. 11, 1977

Perryville -- Inclement weather has caused delay in completion of 1,500-foot runway extension at Perryville Municipal Airport, but officials say five good working days should bring project to completion next week; $300,000 project will provide sufficient runway for Rockwell International to test its Saberliner jets.

Southeast Missouri State University Homecoming festivities this fall will include two "firsts"; it will be first time annual Alumni Merit Awards will be given in conjunction with that celebration and first time there will be more than two recipients; to be honored this year are Mrs. Lilly Brucher Gehrs of Cape Girardeau, retired professor of home economics at Southeast.

50 years ago: Oct. 11, 1952

Nine-month total of construction in Cape Girardeau rose to $1,292,473 at end of September, tally of municipal records compiled at office of engineer shows; building in September amounts to $107,050 on 20 permits, most being residences.

Stuart Symington is expected to answer some charges of his Republican foe in U.S. Senate race, Sen. James P. Kem, in address at Democratic women's rally tonight at State College Memorial Hall; former secretary of Air Force reportedly is anxious to reply to statements Kem made in address at Houck Field House Sept. 16.

75 years ago: Oct. 11, 1927

Contracts for construction of Marquette Hotel, at Broadway and Fountain, are awarded by board of directors of Chamber of Commerce; general construction contract is awarded to A.H. Gerhardt of Cape Girardeau on low bid of $143,175; heating contract goes to Eicher Heating of St. Louis; supplying electrical equipment will be Rick Electric Co. of St. Louis, while Polack Bros. Plumbing Co. of Cape Girardeau will plumb building; elevator contract goes to Otis Elevator Co. of Kansas City.

Establishment of modern electric lighting system in Cape Girardeau, in line with recent recommendation of Chamber of Commerce, was discussed yesterday by Judge I.R. Kelso, legal counsel, and H.B. Newman, manager of Missouri Utilities Co., in conference with Mayor James A. Barks.
