ALTENBURG, Mo. -- A pilgrimage of the historic sites connected with the Saxon Lutheran immigration to East Perry County in 1839 is held in the afternoon; the tour starts at historic Trinity Lutheran Church, and has been arranged by the Perry County Lutheran Historical Society Inc. as part of the sesquicentennial observance of Altenburg, Frohna, Wittenberg and Uniontown.
A special service is held in the morning at Faith Baptist Temple, during which mortgage papers are burned, signifying the church property is debt free.
Employees of Adams Building and Maintenance Co. of Chicago are winding up the giant task of painting the Mississippi River bridge here; the company has enlarged it's normal 20-man work crew to 34 painters in order to meet its deadline, which is only 12 days away.
The ice-skating rink at Arena Park will probably be moved to another location in the park after this winter; it was found that its present site is incompatible with the annual SEMO District Fair; the carnival that plays here during fair week occupies that site, and this year it installed a number of rides on the clay basin.
The Rev. William H. Wolfe completes two years of pastoral work at Grace Methodist Church; Wolfe came to Cape Girardeau from Kansas City; during the two years he's been pastor here, the congregation has added 96 members.
Dr. S.D. Aubuchon, dean of the newly established Southeast Missouri Baptist Foundation, preaches at the Marble Hill Baptist Church in the evening; Aubuchon is well known in the area, having attended the former Will Mayfield College.
Another exhibition of Pain's Fireworks will be given this evening on the riverfront; the first show Wednesday was a disappointment; the barges were too far from the shore for the crowd to see the set pieces clearly; plus, the wind blew from the east, so that the smoke from the fireworks obstructed the vision of the people; it is hoped the difficulties will be resolved before tonight's performance.
While making a parachute jump from an airplane at the fair in the afternoon, "Skyhigh" Young falls on the roof of the judge's stand and slides off to the ground, unhurt.
