1965

The top executive officers of Ozark Air Lines told Cape Girardeau government and business leaders yesterday that unless the city upgrades its airport to present and future standards, it cannot only expect a lowering of commercial airline service, but also a decline in vital business and industrial aviation.

The Cape Girardeau County Court has set a general policy for future major road improvements; the policy calls for a minimum of 60 feet of right of way on any county road upon which there is to be a major widening and on new roads; a greater width will be required on some roads, such as 70 feet on roads that have a good chance for future acquisition by the state.

1940

Winter maintains its relentless grip on Cape Girardeau and the district, the weekend bringing 2 more inches of snow; a slight moderation in temperature Sunday is offset by another frigid blast, which sends the mercury down to 16 degrees.

Six young men from this area go to St. Louis to complete their enlistments in the Navy, and from there will be sent to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station for preliminary training; those going are Ralph C. Crowe and Russell E. Heath of Sikeston, Missouri, Noble B. Harris of Jackson, Homer F. Dillow and George Croft of Tamms, Illinois, and Clovis A. Childers of Cobden, Illinois.

1915

H.J. Fischer, a young man of wide experience in the moving-picture business, and recently in the picture business at Sikeston, Missouri, has been secured by the owners to act as the manager of the Park Theater.

Work on Centenary Methodist Church is progressing rapidly; the plasterers will soon finish their work and the stone masons are rushing the big tower to completion; there was some delay in doing the plumbing; the boiler was shipped from a factory in the East and was delayed in transit.
