Northerly winds blow a taste of winter back into Cape Girardeau in the form of dipping temperatures and moderately heavy snowfall.

Magistrate Judge Roland G. Busch, a Cape Girardeau Democrat, has filed for re-election to the office that he first entered in 1956 to fill an unexpired term; he was elected to a full term in 1958.

75 years ago: Jan. 6, 1937

While a crowd of about 100 stands in the cold mist on the muddy site of Lorimier School, May Greene, veteran of the city's public school system, turns the first shovel of soil to officially start construction of Cape Girardeau's newest school building; the act is the beginning of Lorimier School, a building which will cost about $135,000 and house eight classrooms, an auditorium-gymnasium and a cafeteria.

Plastering of the rooms on the interior of the two-story, 11-room brick residence being erected at the corner of North Sprigg and Bellevue streets for Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hecht will begin tomorrow.

100 years ago: Jan. 6, 1912

Abraham D. Randol, 97, one of the oldest residents of the county, died last night at the Jackson home of his son, J.M. Randol; he was born on the farm known as the old Phillip Frank place and resided in this county his whole life.

The temperature sank into the single digits last night and, when Girardeans wake up this morning, their world is white with about two inches of snow.
