Bass, black physician, in Cairo was bombed Tuesday night in flare-up of violence occurring during preparations to admit black pupils to city schools previously limited to whites; Bass, his wife and four small children escaped injury, but unoccupied bedroom of their home was demolished.

With representatives of both engineering firm and contracting company here, preliminary work on construction of traffic bridge across Mississippi River is under way; P.V. Pennybacker, engineer with firm of Harrington, Howard & Ash, which will have supervision of construction of bridge, arrives in morning; R.L. Stovall, engineer for U.G.I. Construction Co., is also in town with corps of assistants.
Estate of late Louis Houck is valued at $122,655.45 in report of appraiser, named to assess state inheritance tax, in report filed in Common Pleas Court; beneficiaries of estate are his widow; son, Major Giboney Houck.
