BENTON, Mo. -- Fire, believed to have started from a roof spark, destroys the St. Denis Catholic Church and parochial school here, with a loss estimated at about $7,000; the church and school, both frame structures and built together, are a mass of flames within a few minutes after the blaze is discovered by pupils in the school shortly before noon.
SIKESTON, Mo. -- Lieut. Col. Harry E. Dudley of Sikeston is elected commanding officer of the 140th Infantry, Missouri National Guard, by officers of the regiment; with the election his rank is raised to colonel.
The Sherman-Cofer clothing store in Haarig, which opened its doors just a few weeks ago, was entered by robbers last night and robbed of some clothing and shoes, and then set afire; why the robber would want to set fire to the store after he had stolen the goods isn't known, unless he did it just for downright meanness.
