Ivan L. Irvin, a real estate broker here for 22 years, has been appointed to the Missouri Real Estate Commission by Gov. John Ashcroft.

Roy F. Sutherlin, president of the Ironton, Mo., Rotary Club, has written The Missourian that there has never been a marker on the grave of Allan H. Hinchey, for many years field representative of State College; his letter was prompted by a news item several weeks ago noting that a small marker from Hinchey's grave at Arcadia, Mo., was missing; Hinchey, who died in 1934, was editor of The Missourian for a number of years.
The first Cape Girardeau building is marked as a public fallout shelter; a pair of Army engineers deliver signs for a number of buildings to be so designated, erecting the first sign at the Arena Building.

Al Maevers, the blacksmith at the Hamilton shop on Broadway, gets a surprise when he goes to his kitchen for an early breakfast; as he walk in, he discovers a snake crawling across the floor; after he recovers from his surprise, Maevers kills the snake and carefully explores the house for any of its companions.
William Sailer, for 25 years a harness maker and dealer in harnesses and saddlery on the corner of Broadway and Main Street, dies at a St. Louis hospital; besides his widow, he is survived by a son, Edward, and a daughter, Edith.
