Dr. Fred Rawlins delivered 6-pound, 3-ounce William Wyatt Perry Wednesday, marking last of about 8,000 babies Cape Girardeau obstetrician has helped bring into world; he is giving up obstetrics portion of his practice.

Giving reached all-time high for local Salvation Army's Tree of Lights campaign, which surpassed its 1993 goal, raising $118,000; goal was $115,000.

Permission has been obtained from the Most Rev. Joseph E. Ritter, archbishop of St. Louis, to undertake certain improvements in St. Mary's Catholic Church; included in work will be replacing of present altars and sanctuary appointments, and plastering the nave.

Cold wave that sent mercury skidding to new low mark for season came in with new year, bringing intense cold to all sections of Southeast Missouri; yesterday's low was 10 degrees.

J.U. White, farmer at Lodi in Wayne County, will replace Will Bahn of Cape Girardeau on Southeast Missouri Teachers College Board of Regents; Bahn's term had expired.
