The third major snowstorm of the winter sails into the Cape Girardeau area, dumping as much as six inches of snow in some places by late in the night; the snow is accompanied by falling temperatures and wind gusts of up to 35 mph.
In order to prevent another escape such as the one which occurred this week, bars will be added to all skylights and at the ceiling level below a recessed area leading to them in the Cape Girardeau city jail; the two escapees remain at large.
For their January outing, members of Brownie Troop No. 24 of Alma Schrader School tour the Missourian building; leaders in charge of the troop are Mrs. Willis Mouser and Mrs. Nick Carter Jr.
Information on 20 historic sites relating to Missouri's past have been gathered for the Cape Girardeau County Historic Sites Survey by Dr. Earl A. Collins of Cape Girardeau for the statewide survey being conducted by the State Historical Society; old homes, churches, hotels, mills, schoolhouses and other sites are included.
Lawana Fisher will open a school of dancing next week at 118 N. Main St., where Grace Linnig formerly had a school and later Stella Eyerman had one; Fisher received most of her training in toe, tap and acrobatic dancing in Boston, Mass.
A discussion among physicians and Southeast Missouri Hospital authorities develops a suggestion that an annex be built at the hospital; the hospital is filled to capacity with 63 patients, and requests for additional patient entries have to be refused because of a lack of room.
The 700 subscription tickets for the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra concert have been sold, guaranteeing the event will take place in Cape Girardeau; 300 more tickets are still available for purchase at $1.50 each.
H.R. Mason, who has been acting as superintendent for the Cape Girardeau Water and Light Co. for the past several months, has resigned that post and will go to St. Louis to accept a similar job; Mason will be succeeded here by C.E. Wakefield.
