Willie C. Jones has become the fourth candidate to seek one of two positions on the Cape Girardeau Board of Education; Jones joined William Wickham, Benjamin Lewis and Ed Thompson as candidates.
By a unanimous votes, the Cape Girardeau City Council increases trash-pickup fees and authorizes the purchase of a west-end site on which to relocate Fire Station No. 2; effective March 1, the fee for residential trash pickup will increase $4.05 a month, to $8.90, and the average cost of commercial trash pickup will go up 80 percent.
With registration in the morning at Notre Dame High School, 200 Senior Girl Scouts from four states begin their two-day Senior Conference under the auspices of the Otahki Girl Scout Council; theme for the conference is "Moods, Manners and Morals of Moderns."
Dr. Robert A. Werner of Cape Girardeau has filed for the office of county coroner on the Republican ticket; the incumbent, Walter J. Ford, a Democrat and also of Cape Girardeau, hasn't filed for reelection as yet.
Those observing the progress on the new library building on the Teachers College campus are impressed by the size of the cut Bedford stone which is being hoisted into place by windlass and which is unfolding into a beautiful structure; 12 railroad carloads of the stone have been shipped here for the structure; altogether, 1,148 pieces of the cut Bedfird stone will be used in the library, exclusive of the rubble stone, or native limestone in the walls' construction.
The Cape County Wild Life Conservation Federation has approved a plan for one to three game fish rearing ponds to be prepared and used in the county this summer; the lagoon in Fairground Park will be used, if the city gives its permission.
O.E. Eggimann, late partner of Allison & Bremmermann in the A.B.E. Toggery at Jackson, has accepted a position with the John Vandeven Mercantile establishment at Cape Girardeau; he plans to move his family and belongings to that city at once.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Milde and Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel Milde of Jackson pass through Cape Girardeau on their way to Kennett, Mo., to spend a few weeks with relatives.
