Kitty Litter founder Edward Lowe brought 30 cats here by motor home from the company's headquarters in Cassiopolis, Mich., on Monday; they are the newest residents of Edward Lowe Industries Inc.'s new research center.

Burglars broke into the MidSouth Steel Products Inc. firm, 1500 Riverview Drive, overnight; they used a chisel to cut holes in the front and back of a filing cabinet-safe in a futile attempt to enter the safe.

A new, heavy snowfall in the Cape Girardeau area would create something of a cinder crisis for the city and the Missouri State Highway Department; both the city Public Works Department and the state report their stockpiles of cinders are dwindling; the city's sole cinder source is the International Shoe Co.

A temporary organization has been formed of people interested in reviving the old brewery at Old Appleton; after a new lease is drafted for the Old Appleton Ice & Brewery Co., and approved by the old board of directors, it will be presented at a stockholders' meeting in an effort to form a new corporation.

Alvin "Bo" McMillin, head football coach of the University of Indiana Hoosiers, was keynote speaker for last night's annual Lions Club football banquet for Teachers College and Central High players.

The basketball season opened last night at the Normal School, with the local team downing Marvin College of Fredericktown, Mo., 34-22.

A committee met Friday with property owners of Aquamsi Street in an effort to reach a compromise on the proposition of condemning a strip of land in order to extend Main Street south of Independence Street two blocks; several -- August Teichmann, Green Tree Brewer, H.G. Dempsey, Claud Speak and the Catholic church -- agreed to give the city their property outright; others -- Joe Fuerth, John Stratman, J.N. Hartzell and Herman Buck -- are asking for cash compensation.
