A list of five finalists for Cape Girardeau city manager includes the names of two Cape Girardeans: County Associate Commissioner J. Ronald Fischer and acting city manager Alvin M. Stoverink; other finalists are Thomas O. Forslund of Casper, Wyo.; Allen D. Gill of Clinton, Mo.; and Jack A. Gross of Bedford, Va.

Northwest Airlink will start a new flight schedule here Friday, which includes an originating flight out of Cape Girardeau; the airline will have one nonstop flight to Memphis and two nonstop inbound flights from Memphis.

St. Andrew Lutheran Church conducts its 10th annual Mission Festival in the morning; guest speaker is Shang Ik Moon, a Korean student at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.

Under the direction of a Wesley Foundation Board, elected by the Missouri-East Conference of the Methodist Church, a permanent Methodist Center for College Students has been established in the former Leming house, 311 N. Ellis St.; students affiliated with the Wesley Foundation have heretofore met in the education building of Centenary Methodist Church.

1938

The chamber of commerce committee, headed by Clinton Kimball to provide a suitable memorial for the late W.F.D. Batjer, decides to recommend a sundial bearing a simple inscription on a bronze plate; a shaft of polished Missouri red granite holding a bronze sundial, set on a substantial concrete foundation, can be provided at a cost of $300.

Cape Girardeau Township Constable Robert Reed and Bascom L. Patrick, store clerk and minister, have announced they will seek nomination as city commissioner in the municipal primary election in March; they are the first to get into the race.

1913

Cape Girardeau's streetcar system is now under the management of the water and light company; this arrangement is temporary; the officers of the streetcar company made a contract with the water and light company to operate the system until something can be done with the property; the move was made necessary by the recent loss by fire of the trolley company's power plant.

Tom Juden, chairman of the county Democratic Party, is in Jefferson City to attend the inauguration today of Gov.-elect E.W. Major.
