Filing yesterday as a Democrat for Cape Girardeau County treasurer was William M. Bryan of Cape Girardeau; Bryan was longtime owner of KGMO AM/FM radio station here and is now retired; also filing for re-election on the Democratic ticket was coroner Harold Cobb.

Two people were injured in a single-car accident resulting from icy roads yesterday; the accident was one of 22 on city streets Tuesday, most of them a result of slick streets.

50 years ago: Jan. 11, 1959

The Rev. W.E. Carlton preaches at the first service held at the Bible Missionary Church; the former South Side Baptist Church, 1012 S. Ellis St., was purchased by the congregation yesterday.

The Rev. Armand Graf, a Lutheran missionary to India, is the guest speaker in the morning at a special mission service at St. Andrew Lutheran Church; he also addresses the Sunday School assembly.

75 years ago: Jan. 11, 1934

Four thousand pounds of dry beans and 4,000 additional pounds of salted pork have been allotted to Cape Girar­deau County from the government's surpluses; the four tons of food will likely be trucked here tomorrow from Fredericktown, Mo.; it will be distributed to the deserving needy.

Seventeen men from the Civil Works Administration roll in Scott County; they are scheduled to start work Monday in the north end of the county cleaning Little River Drainage District canals under the re-employment-health program.

100 years ago: Jan. 11, 1909

Several routine matters are taken up by the County Court in the morning at Jackson; the issue of ordering a new barn for the county poor farm is again postponed until the next meeting.

Doctors at Oak Ridge are trying to accommodate the many people demanding smallpox vaccinations; a man in the town was discovered with the disease; he lives with his grandfather in Concord, the black village near Oak Ridge; those inhabitants are outraged he has gone among them and the people of Oak Ridge while suffering from the contagion.
