About 65 county and city officials from throughout the area converged on the Ramada Inn in Cape Girardeau last night for a meeting with 10th District U.S. Rep. Bill D. Burlison in an effort to convince the congressman of the importance of continuing revenue sharing for local governments.
CAIRO, Ill. -- The Southern Medical Center has moved a step closer to obtaining a much needed $650,000 loan from the U.S. Farmers Home Administration for renovation of hospital buildings and refinancing of its debts.

John H. Freeze, 71, a native of Cape Girardeau County and who resided in this and Stoddard County all his life, dies at Saint Francis Hospital; Freeze was the inventor of the Freeze threshing machine, which formerly was manufactured in this city, the factory being in the Red Star suburb.
The city council appoints four city officials: R.P. Smith, city attorney; E.L. Sailer, city engineer; Herman Bremerman, city treasurer, and Louis Brinkopf, street commissioner.
100 years ago: April 10, 1905
The big railroad bridge across the Mississippi River at Thebes, Ill., is almost completed; two days ago, the last pin in the structural work was driven, and the occurrence was attended by the blowing of whistles and discharging of firearms.
P.A. Hoch, the furniture man, and Al Brinkopf, the popular young man who has been an employee in the store, have gone into partnership in the undertaking business.
