Hopkins and Dixie Marie Rodgers were married April 14, 1946, in the chapel on the campus of Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. Their attendants were J.R. "Jack" Hopkins and Margaret Day.

The couple is formerly of Marble Hill, Mo., where they operated retail businesses. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.

The couple has four children, Mark and Shirley Hopkins of Atlanta, Ga., Gregg and Ann Hopkins of St. Louis, Sarah Hopkins of Cape Girardeau, and the late Samuel F. Hopkins. They have six grandchildren, Joshua, Ashley, Rachel and Eric Hopkins, Jacob and Nathan Surface.
