PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Zexia L. “Zax” Pourney, 85, of Perryville died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 1, 1931, in Perry County, Missouri, son of Francis “Buck” and Effie Marie Gibbar Pourney. He and Betty J. Hennemann were married Nov. 30, 1957. She survives in Perryville.

Zax was a retired boiler maker with Killebrew Engineering. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, American Legion Post 133 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4282. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Survivors include a daughter and three sons, Sharon Wengert and Darrell (Connie) Pourney, both of Perryville, Mike (Gina) Pourney of St. Louis and Larry (Carrie) Pourney of Perryville; seven grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Pourney; and three brothers, Leslie, Lloyd and Ray Pourney.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

Funeral Mass will be at noon Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan C.M. officiating. Entombment will be in the Mary Queen of All Saints Mausoleum at Mount Hope Cemetery, with military funeral honors provided by American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team.

Memorials are preferred to the Ataxia Foundation.
