EAST PRAIRIE -- Zella Mae Faire Garner, 82, of East Prairie died of an extended illness Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born May 18, 1915, in Liberty, Ky., daughter of Welby Lee and Maude Alice Young Faire.

She married Charles Thomas Garner in 1936. He died in 1969.

She had lived in Mississippi County most of her life where she was a member of First Baptist Church of East Prairie. She was also active in the senior citizens center.

She is survived by five sons, Rex Wallace Garner of Calhoun, Ga., Donald Ross Garner and Joseph Alan Garner, both of East Prairie, Russell Bruce Garner, both of Cape Girardeau, and Charles Ray Garner of Morley; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Sterling of East Prairie; a brother, Earl Faire of East Prairie; a sister, Ada Puyear of East Prairie; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and two grandsons.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie, with Brother George White officiating.

Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
