FORT HOOD, Texas -- Zachary "Zack" Paul Metheny, 14, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Carl R. Darnall Hospital in Fort Hood. He was born April 26, 1999, to Tim and Betty Metheny. FORT HOOD, Texas -- Zachary "Zack" Paul Metheny, 14, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Carl R. Darnall Hospital in Fort Hood.

He was born April 26, 1999, to Tim and Betty Metheny. Zack was a student at Killeen High School. He was a member of the freshman football team, golf team and track team. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Hope Mills, N.C.

Survivors are his parents, Tim and Betty Metheny of Fort Hood; a sister, Madison Metheny of Fort Hood; his grandparents, Richard and Ann Mayo Johnson and Tom and Beverly Metheny; a great-grandmother, Bonnie Metheny; his aunt, Phyllis (Bruce) Dodds; his uncle, Jason (Charity) Metheny; and four cousins, Logan, Tanner, MarKrissa and Savannah.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul Howard James.

Visitation was Saturday at McMillan Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Haskell Sparks officiating. Burial will be in East Prentiss Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to taps.org/tribute/ or checks made to TAPS, 3033 Wilson Blvd., Suite 630, Arlington, VA 22201. The donor should make a memo that donations are in tribute to the remembrance of Zachary Paul Metheny.
